The History of Scalextric
Over fifty years ago, an inventor introduced his metal model car that ran on a rubber track with two parallel grooves, in which an electric current was running on metal rails, at the Harrogate Toy Fair in the UK. The toy racing car was called Scalextric and it captured the imagination of children and adults alike. By the early 1960's, both cars and track were moulded in plastic and the popularity of the little car controlled by a multiple speed control handset was soaring to new heights. Today, Scalextric is still as popular with kids of all ages.... as well as the doting parent that bought the racing circuit and vehicles in the first place.
