Noted for their pouches where they develop their young, marsupials are found throughout the world, but most notably in Australasia. It's thought they might have originated in North America, but that their slow metabolism helped them to survive in the heat of Australia. The young are born at a very early stage, just a few weeks, and crawl into the mother's pouch where they remain until they are old enough to survive outside. There are over three hundred species of Marsupial, and our pennygift takes a look at the lifestyle of just some of them.
